May Updates

A few May updates from Leslie:

- It's been a very busy month so far! We started out with a visit from Oakhurst, CA friends, the Oetinger family! Rusty and Cecelia and kids were on vacation from their current teaching jobs in China. What a gift it was to have them stay with us. They are such a cool family, smart, fun, adventurous and we were so refreshed by their visit! Rusty writes one of my favorite blogs, www.rustyoety.blogspot.com with interesting insights to life abroad! I was so inspired by this family in many ways. Thanks, Oetingers, for bringing encouragement, energy, and a fresh perspective to what we do!

- I had the privilege of speaking to Brent International School students about poverty and the United Nations Millenium Development Goals. Various students are participating in projects in the Subic area, some with Project Life. It is amazing to see the students' responses as they become aware of the world's (and local) poverty and the health issues that are inherent in those conditions. Many students were shocked that poverty exists just outside the perimeter of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone!
Brent students donated clothing to the youth of 12thSt. as part of their poverty project.

- Sonny has started a new men's group on 12th St! He is building a team of men to lead a "Celebrate Recovery" group. The men are eager to learn more to change the unhealthy patterns in their lives, and to reach out to others in their neighborhood. More info on this next month...

- The building that will house our youth activities is nearing completion and the owner says we'll be open by June! Preparation is underway to begin free music classes and English classes as well as the regular Youth Group calendar of events.

None of this would be possible with your love, support and encouragement. A big thanks goes to you, friends of Project Life Subic! As we say here in the Philippines-
"Maraming Salamat!"
